SGC Illustrations¶
Affinity Designer¶
Nearly all of the illustrations/graphics for SGC courses have been created by Ezra in Affinity Designer.
Affinity does not currently support pretty much any "scripty" language, including:
- Hindi
- Tamil
- Thai? (more officially supported as of v2 beta 2.1. See also.)
Microsoft Publisher¶
So for languages that Aff. Designer doesn't support, Ezra exports a blank image (vector .emf format) with no words and then use it as a base layer in Microsoft Publisher which does a much better job of handling fonts/scripts in exotic languages. See the table below for a list of which languages need to be done in Publisher.
As of 2026, Publisher is being discontinued, so Ezra modified MS's example script to export all Publisher files to vector PDFs so we're not stuck with only low resolution raster images. The script can be run as follows:

Fonts¶
The generic Noto Sans font supports ~800 languages, but the more specialized scripts have their own versions of Noto Sans. All of these fonts--the exact version that Ezra has installed on his system can be found here.
