Convert Nepali 'Preeti' font to Unicode

Use WSL Ubuntu 22.04, (Windows has encoding issues so it throws an error).

  • sudo pip install npttf2utf (https://github.com/sapradhan/nep-ttf2utf/)
  • sudo npttf2utf -m docx -if auto -of unicode -i "LIH4.docx" -o "LIH-converted4.docx"
  • Copy file out of WSL filesystem
  • If Word complains, just recover the file, and it should work (then save)

There's also a Word VBA but it can't do a whole doc at once, and isn't "smart" enough to detect English and exclude it. Handy for quick little bits though. Also there are online converters for small, quick conversions.

If Indesign is having issues with Nepali fonts, try the settings outlined in this post.
